“A compact design with A huge sound”
The Monster Clarity Micro can be easily integrated in the small portable speakers’ category. It is slightly bigger than the Harman Kardon Esquire Mini which means it will fit in a bigger pocket easily, but packs a better sound and does have a good bass response (in comparison with the later).
Besides the small size and the fact that it’s easy to carry everywhere without needing a bag, we actually loved the compact design and the de accessories. All in all, this small speaker is cute and does look quite stylish and elegant. This makes it very useful in a plethora of situations that require a bit of style. For instance, you can use it in a voice conference in your office or you can simply install it in your car and use it as a speakerphone and a portable speaker. All this is possible due to the built-in microphone that supports advanced noise cancellation features.
We also liked the audio input which allows you to connect a device that doesn’t support Bluetooth. This is great in case you keep your music on an MP3 player or another type of device.
When it comes to price, the Monster Clarity Micro started a bit overpriced (about $200) but right now you can find it for about $50 which is quite affordable and does integrate the features this small speaker has to offer.
Design & Special features
The design is compact and slim, featuring curved lines and nice accessories that can improve the general appearance. For instance, if you don’t like the fact that it only has one color, you can simply pop the front grill out and replace it with another one, in another color. However, this will set you back about $20 which is a lot when you compare it with the price.
The speaker is also equipped with a strap that increases the security of the device when you carry it around. This way, in case it slips out of your hand, the strap will stop it from getting smashed on the floor. The strap also has a role in the design as it looks quite fancy.
The Monster Clarity Micro measures 2.5 x 7.8 x 9.1 inches and weighs about 13.8 ounces. We loved the fact that the manufacturer managed to keep the surface uncluttered with buttons and ports as everything is strategically placed either on the top side or on the side corners. Speaking of, the available buttons and ports are as follows:
- MicroUSB that allows you to charge the battery
- The audio input that allows you to connect non-Bluetooth devices
- An on/off switch for establishing the Bluetooth connection (the cool thing is that once a connection established, the Clarity Micro will remember it and will connect to that device automatically the next time)
- A reset button
- Volume buttons
- Phone button
Another great feature is the fact that it has audio feedback that helps you during the setting up and pairing process. But the surprises don’t stop here! If you press both volume buttons at the same time, you are granted access to the voice command section. Here you can ask the Monster Clarity Micro to do a series of things and it will comply quite easily. Still, these commands are predefined and it doesn’t compare with the technology packed in the smarter Amazon Echo. However, it’s a nice feature that can be explored.
We actually liked the audio performance on this little thing. It is loud and does support a pretty good separation of mids and highs while supporting an incredible bass response. Even more, the bottom is covered with rubber so it won’t move on the table while playing your favorite, bass heavy, music.
We have to say that it is impressive that a device this small can pack such a punch!
This is an area where the Monster Clarity Micro is a bit under the market. The Lithium Ion battery only offers you about 5 or 6 hours of continuous usage. Even more, it doesn’t offer the possibility to charge other devices from it.
- Compact design
- Great sound
- Very portable
- Can be connected with devices that don’t implement Bluetooth
- The battery life is a bit low
- The accessories are a bit pricey
In the end, the Monster Clarity Micro is a cute little device that does a good job at offering a great audio experience. We loved that it is very portable and that you can use it as a speakerphone as well. Also, the interchangeable faces are an interesting touch.
