“Innovation & high-audio quality in A compact design”
Cleverly named “h.ear go”, this speaker boasts itself as being the smallest portable speaker, capable of blowing your mind out with a fantastic audio experience. Sony made another clever move and designed these speakers in a variety of vivid colors, which can fit any type of person, according to their choice. So, to resume, we are dealing with a small speaker, which allows you to hear your favorite music while on the go. A stylish design with a simple, modern look. We could definately place this product at the top of our wishlist.
So what how does the Sony h.ear go is different when comparing it to similar products? We compared it to these two products: Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 and the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III. We found that these two are quite similar terms of design and performance. So what are the differences?
Well, besides their amazing sound (which is indeed powerful) the Sony h.ear go does have a few interesting features up their sleeves. From the fact that the speaker also supports WiFi connectivity to the fact that you can actually play music in multiple rooms at the same time, the h.ear go is definitely bringing something new to the niche.
But, let’s see what makes this small speaker so popular even though it was just released recently.

Design & Special Features
The design is simple and easy to understand. The speaker has a rectangular shape and comes in crazy colors that have artistic names (lime for instance). Besides this, it is water resistant (not available for all models!) so you can actually take it wherever you want. The speaker has a dual-sided design which means you can either lay it on the side or upright – the sound quality won’t be affected by this.
The build is solid and the materials feel good in the hand. The two sides covering the speakers are protected by grills so the sound can come out crisp and clear. Even more, all the buttons and available ports are designed to blend in the design. Thus, you’ll have the following:
- A button with multiple functions (or the function button if you like) – this makes the switch between Bluetooth, line in, and WiFi.
- A microUSB port
- The port where you connect the charger
- Power button
- Phone button – so you can use it as a speakerphone as well
- Volume up and down buttons
- The Extra Bass button – by pressing this button you will get to enjoy a quite punchy bass level which is very impressive for a portable speaker.
- 3 buttons on the side that serve a series of new features
The speaker supports Bluetooth, WiFi, and NFC connections and you have access to Google Cast and Spotify. Even more, Sony introduced the possibility to connect the h.ear go speaker to other speakers that are in different rooms. This happens with the help of an app called the Songpal App from Sony. You can either create a stereo connection with another speaker or you can share the music you are listening with your family who is in another room. It’s indeed an interesting idea, but we’re not so sure it actually works considering the size of the original speaker.
When it comes to audio quality Sony really invested a lot of effort into creating a great sound experience with such a compact design. We think that the sound is crisper than with Bose SoundLink III and the volume is pretty loud for such a small box.
The amazing sound quality and powerful volume are supported by dual tweeters and dual passive radiators that cover the front and back side.
When it comes to battery, Sony h.ear go really impressed us. The battery will offer you about 12 hours of continuous music and you can charge external devices with it. Of course, you shouldn’t expect the same battery life if you choose to use the speaker as a charger.
- Compact design
- Good battery life
- Good audio quality
- Water resistant
- The multiroom feature may not work as expected
- Not all models are water resistant
Even though it doesn’t pack the same technological advancement like its bigger cousin, the Amazon Echo, Sony h.ear go is highly portable, offers a fantastic sound experience and can be even paired with other speakers in the house. For us is exactly what a portable speaker should do.
