“A reliable dryer based on innovative steam technologies”

At first look, the Samsung DV48J7700EW is nothing but a classic shaped dryer that has nothing new to offer. Don’t let the simple aspect fool you, as this dryer is equipped with innovative technologies that not only will make your clothes look refreshed, but it will also sanitize them and deliver them without any wrinkles.

With an easy to access control panel and generous capacity, the Samsung DV48J7700EW is equipped with a child lock device, which many of the high-end dryers don’t seem to care about.

With a price range set around $570 and $900 (according to store and area), this dryer will save you the time and money spent on ironing and dry cleaners.

Design & Physical Specifications

The dryer is covered with the same old white paint, but there are a few details that improve its entire appearance like the big door made out of transparent black glass and the top panel where Samsung decided to get creative.

The top panel looks sleek and stylish, but keeps the same three area separation even though the right side is occupied only by the Samsung logo. The middle area is occupied by a big, silver dial button that can be used to easily select any of the available programs, and the left area is occupied by an LCD touchscreen with display and other buttons. There are also a few regular buttons, placed on the same side with the display.

The physical dimensions of this dryer are: 27 x 44.25 x 30 inches (Width x Height x Depth).

Performance & Features

The drying performance is very good with this product, especially given the fact that it is equipped with a series of sensors that allow the appliance to know when the clothes are dry enough, thus removing the over drying problem.

Features like the Multi-Steam settings are implemented to improve the performance and create a better experience for the user. Thus, the most important features are:

  • Multi-Steam technology – the Samsung DV48J7700EW is programmed to help reduce the time spent ironing by offering users the possibility to remove wrinkles, bacteria, static and odors, all in one step. Even more, users won’t have to worry about refilling the water reservoir.
  • Moisture Sensor – over drying can completely destroy most of the clothes which is why Samsung implemented the Sensor Dry technology that optimizes the temperature and time settings. The dryer will shut off as soon as the sensor transmits the dryness has reached the optimal level.
  • Powdercoat drum and interior light – this offers durability and ensures the users their clothes will always be protected. Also, the interior drum light helps the user locate clothing items easily.
  • Noise-reduction technology – for an almost silent and vibration-free drying experience. This feature allows the users to place the dryer anywhere in the house where they have access to a vent.
  • Smart Care – users benefit from Samsung’s latest innovation in customer support, that allows them to identify problems with appliances via a smartphone app. This eliminates the long calls with the support team and useless annoyances.

The dryer is equipped with 11 preset drying cycles, 8 options, 4 dry levels, and 4 temperature setting. All these combined manage to offer users the ultimate drying experience.

Capacity & Engine

The Samsung DV48J7700EW dryer has a capacity of 7.4 cubic feet. It may not be as generous as the LG DLEX8000V, but it is still pretty generous and will help users spend less time in the laundry room.

The engine is completely electric and requires a 4-way venting system in order to function properly. Users can also find the gas version of this engine.

Energy Efficiency

The Samsung DV48J7700EW is Energy Star rated and it has an average consumption of 607kWh/year. It also uses one of the newest technologies from Samsun called Eco Dry. This will help users consume with 25% less energy on every load while the dryer offers superior drying power.

Final Thoughts

PROS:
  • The capacity makes it great for both big families and couples
  • The Multi-Steam technology works great for less ironing and money spent
  • It is energy efficient
  • Child lock during functioning
  • Access to the Smart Care system
  • Affordable even for a regular budget
CONS:
  • The design is not showing the innovations underneath
  • It can’t be stacked with the matching washer
  • No delay start option

The Samsung DV48J7700EW is an interesting appliance that will cut a big portion from the time users spend in the laundry room. Samsung has made noticeable efforts to improve its technologies and this dryer is the best result up until now.

I purchased this new from Best Buy in February of 2016. It stopped heating December of 2016. I thought calling a reputable company such as Samsung would be a breeze, especially with the product being in warranty. Was I in for a disappointing surprise. The customer service agents lack empathy and other basic human/professional qualities. I submitted my receipt as instructed and didn’t hear back from them within 2 business days as advised. After 4 business days, I called back to a bossy and rude agent who offered no apology or reason. Then a supervisor assigned me to a repair shop. The repair shop didn’t call as I was advised, nor did they return my call. I called again and they said Samsung didn’t update the ticket to show me in warranty. I called Samsung back and was connected to another unapologetic agent who is currently working on updating the ticket (20 minute call and counting…typing while on hold). Also, the repair shop is unable to service me until Jan. 4th, even if th warranty is corrected. I asked the Samsung agent to look at other repair shops and am told they will have to cancel the first one in order to look at another. What a nightmare. A family of 6 with young messy toddlers without a dryer for this long is ridiculous considering what was spent on this name brand dryer. I just bought a stove and fridge and chose a company other than Samsung. Run run run from this company!

    + PROS: Stylish
    - CONS: Unreliable - stopped heating in 10 months Poor Customer Service - Given the run around regarding a fix, although it is in warranty.
