“A better phone with lots of enhancements”
We all remember the huff and puff the iPhone6 created when its frame simply bent. The consumers’ frustration is fully understandable given the price and fame Apple products bring. With the new iPhone 6S things should be better as Apple invested in a better frame and a new 3D Touch display that is pressure sensitive.
One great feature that is still present in the iPhone 6S is the Apple Pay, an app that allows users to pay directly with their phone. This is a huge improvement for the iPhone and the service is actually very popular among users and banks.
One of the things they didn’t actually manage to improve with the new 6S is the battery life which seems to drain even faster than with its predecessor. This issue raised a lot of questions and users started to doubt the fact that a phone that won’t even last an entire day is worth over $640. Actually, the 6S version comes in two variants of size: the 4.7 inch display that costs $649 and the 5.5 inch display that sells for $749.
Another big problem, besides the battery life is the weight. The iPhone 6S is noticeably heavier (143g) than all its direct competitors and this has brought a wave of complaints from consumers.
The iPhone 6S comes with a Retina HD display and implements a revolutionary technology called 3D Touch. The display is an IPS LCD with 16M-color and LED backlight that supports a 750 x 1334 pixels resolution at a 326 ppi density.
The 3D Touch technology is, according to Apple, a new modality to interact with your phone. The screen actually feels how much pressure a user applies and reacts accordingly. This actually allows the phone to recognize new gestures, fact that can lead to innovations, but this will take some time.
The 6S version comes with a new processor that moves faster and offers an enhanced user experience thanks to the A9 chip with embedded M9 motion coprocessor and 64-bit architecture. The processor is a dual-core Twister that can run up to 1.8 GHz speed and the GPU is a PowerVR GT7600 which is pretty impressive for a phone.
The phone comes with 2GB of RAM (less than on Samsung Galaxy S6) memory and 16/64/128GB of storage space, fact that allows the device to move swiftly through apps and run high-quality videos anytime, anywhere. The device is also equipped with dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac for faster connectivity, Bluetooth 4.2, a lightning port, NFC that is used for the Apple Pay app, and A-GPS.
This aspect is quite problematic with all Apple devices because they sacrificed the battery power in favor of beauty and style a long time ago. This device comes with a 1,715 mAh battery (smaller than the one included in the Samsung S6) and a new Power saving mode that is supposed to save face. Still, users complain that the new iPhone barely makes it 1 day without charging.
Just like with every Apple product, the design is amazing. The device has four great finishes: Silver, Space Gray, Rose Gold, and Gold and the casing is made of 7000 Series aluminum, a strong alloy used in aerospace industry. Apple continues to promote the sleek design that made them famous in the first place, only this time the body seems sturdier.
Camera & Features
The camera is a definite improvement in this iPhone version. With 12MP, the back camera supports an F/2.2 and is integrated with a True tone LED flash that won’t burn your pictures. The camera delivers a 4K resolution for videos and optical image stabilization for images.
As main features, the camera supports geo-tagging, touch focus, smile and face detection, and panorama.
The front camera is smaller and it is used mostly for video calls like on Skype and conferences. This one has 5MP and supports 1808p at 30fps or 720p at 240 fps with features like HDR (panorama) and face detection.
- The 3D Touchscreen, an true innovation
- Sturdier body using a special alloy
- Faster processing speed
- Great camera with amazing features
- Battery life is quite low
- Only 16GB of storage space on the basic model
Regarding the design, the new iPhone 6S is not very far away from its predecessor, but hardware wise the phone comes with increased processing speed, a better camera, and a sturdier casing. It is indeed heavier and the battery life isn’t so great, but it still remains the most desired gadget for so many people.
