“Big screen, slim design and many new features”

Google didn’t manage to make the Nexus phone as popular as Apple did with their brand, but they are recovering the lost time with the new version, the Google Nexus 6P. This phone is developed by Huawei and this may be a problem for users in Europe and US, given the fact that they don’t know the Huawei brand so well.

The device is compliant with the latest technologies Google has to offer and does feel good when held by users. As features to wow the public, we can count the 12.3MP camera, the new Android 6.0, Android Pay (as an answer to Apple Pay), and the fingerprint button for extra security.

It does seem like the Google Nexus 6P has what it takes to be a great phone, but can it stand face-to-face with giants like Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ or iPhone 6S Plus? Well, if it were to compare, the Nexus 6P is a big phone (the display alone is 5.7 inches) but it feels pretty good in hand. Google continued their trend in design and the phone feels and looks like one single piece of material fact that makes it sturdy and elegant.

Android 6.0 or Android Marshmallow is the new OS from Google and comes with a lot of new features fact that makes the Nexus 6P look fresh and exciting. The listing price definitely places this phone on the category of the best as fans will have to get $629.95 out of their pockets.

Display

As mentioned before, The Google Nexus 6P is a big phone and comes with a 5.7 inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The AMOLED capacitive Touchscreen supports 16M colors and implements a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels at a density of 518ppi.

The screen is sharp and vivid, displaying images and videos in a color-rich format. Being so big, the display is great for watching movies, answering emails and Facebook messages, browsing, gaming, and so many other activities.

Performance

The Nexus 6P comes with a Snapdragon 810 Octa Core processor which runs at 2.0GHz, 3GB of DDR4 RAM, and has three different options for storage space: 32/64/128GB. With this configuration, the phone is similar in performance with amazing phones like HTC One M9 or Sony Xperia Z5.

The Nexus 6P moves fast especially with the new OS, but other features like dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.2 have their influence. Also, the device is equipped with DLNA for synchronization with other smart devices, A-GPS, NFC, and others.

Battery life

The non-removable Li-Po 3450 mAh battery seems powerful, especially considering it overcomes the one implemented on the LG G4, but it doesn’t manage to keep the phone charged for more than one day.

The Nexus 6P uses a Type-C reversible charger that guarantees a faster and better charging session. Still, it is a new type of cable and, if you forget it at home, it will be difficult to find another. On this phone we’re missing the wireless charging that was already implemented by Google on previous models.

Design

The design is minimalist and doesn’t stand out like the iPhone or the latest Samsung phones do. It is a good thing though as the phone still feels good when handled and it looks quite interesting. The device is presented in 3 finishes: Aluminum, Graphite, and Frost.

The metallic case and the Gorilla Glass present a sturdy phone that will resist well to shocks and scratches, but that’s about it. Google doesn’t go big on design like Samsung did with Galaxy Note 5 by introducing a stylus and seducing curves, or the Sony Xperia Z5 that has waterproof design.

Camera & Features

The camera is quite good at 12.3MP with UHD video possibilities (4K) and 240fps for slow motion video. The secondary camera, placed in front has only 8MP but is perfect for voice calls and conferences.  Google took the iPhone example and went with a camera that doesn’t implement a whapping resolution but has bigger pixels capable to catch more details and light.

The Nexus 6P is equipped with specialized software that will make users’ pictures and videos more advanced and fun.

Final thoughts

PROS:
  • High-resolution screen
  • Metallic body
  • Loud speakers
  • Great camera
CONS:
  • Battery life is average
  • No wireless charging

The Nexus 6P from Google is a great phone, with a great construction and minimalist design. With a big, vivid screen, slim design and advanced hardware configuration, the device can be easily integrated in the category of the best and greatest.
