LG G4 Review

“A better phone with an absolutely gorgeous design”

Jaw-dropping designs are not Apple’s trademark anymore. Producers finally understood that sleek, gorgeous devices are extremely well received by the public and they saw the difference attention to details can make in sales. This year’s LG model managed to wow the entire world with an innovative design that promotes smoother lines, a curved back and leather back cover (available only for the premium version).

Just like most freshly released phones (Samsung Galaxy S6 or iPhone 6S), the LG G4 is actually an improved version of its predecessor, promoting a bigger screen, a new IPS Quantum display, better camera and contrast, and amazing new features.

It may not compare with the crazy resolution Samsung Galaxy S6 introduced, or with Iphone 6S amazing new display, but the LG G4 is a serious competitor that will definitely be noticed by customers. The price also makes it a fantastic option for users who don’t want to go over $500 for a phone. The basic version can be found at prices between $200 and $320 and the premium version is usually with $100 more expensive.

The LG G4 promotes a 5.5 inch capacitive IPS LCD Touchscreen with 16M colors that supports a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 538 pixels. The screen is protected against shocks and scratches by Corning Gorilla Glass and also gives the device a nice, shiny finish.

With such features, the display manages to offer a color-rich experience and the contrast is definitely an improvement from the 3G version.

This aspect is one of the main advantages the new LG G4 hides under the leather or plastic casing. With a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor that runs at 1.8 GHz speed helped by an Adreno 418 graphical processing unit and 3GB of RAM memory, the LG G4 is fast. Also, the device comes with 32GB of extra storage space that can be used for apps, images, files and videos. If this doesn’t seem enough, LG is one of the producers who didn’t gave up in the MicroSD slot so users can increase the storage space up to 128GB.

Previous LG phones had some issues in running the LG G interface which is a bit too rich in content and features for the phone it runs on. This ends with the LG G4 as now the interface moves surprisingly smooth.

In terms of connectivity, the phone supports dual-band WiFi 802.11, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, DLNA, and A-GPS. This makes connections fast and data transfers smooth and efficient.

Battery Life

LG decided to stick with the removable battery (direct reference to Samsung Galaxy S6 which made a radical change by encasing the battery) and is equipped with a whapping Li-Ion 3000 mAh power unit. If used continuously, at full capacity and connectivity, the battery is capable to maintain the phone for about 20h.

The LG G4 can be found in two versions of design: the basic one with a plastic back cover that has metal finishes and the premium version that wows the market with a leather back cover and decorative stitching on the middle. The premium version comes in two leather options (black and brown) and offers an amazing touch experience as the cover feels great in hand.

Continuing with the back cover, the LG G4’s is curved in order to fit perfectly in the palm of a user’s hand.

Camera & Features

The primary camera has 16MP (more than the new iPhone 6S), F/1.8 and supports 5312 x 2988 pixels, has optical image stabilization and laser-assisted autofocus. Also, it is equipped with geo-tagging functionalities, panorama, face detection and touch focus.

The secondary camera has 8MP and runs on 1080p at 60fps. The video quality is pretty high as the device is capable to deliver 2160p at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps with stereo sound.

Final thoughts

  • Very decent battery life
  • Great screen with amazing resolution
  • Leather back cover in premium version
  • Expandable storage space
  • Affordable price
  • The LG G interface is a bit heavy
  • On some models, the leather on the back feels cheap

LG is raising from their own ashes and proves that they still have something amazing to offer. The new LG G4 is a beautiful phone that, for an affordable budget, offers a fantastic design and advanced features, making it perfect for both regular and power users.
