“A powerful and beautiful phone for dreamers and goal achievers”

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is definitely not a phone that can be tucked in the back pocket of a pair of skinny jeans. The first impediment would be its generous size that promotes a 5.1 inches display, and the second is the beautiful, business design. This phone was designed to sit on offices during conferences and help dreamers sketch their ideas when the inspiration hits. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is definitely not a phone to be used just for entertainment!

One feature that makes the design unique and, at the same time, easy to hold is the curved glass around the edges (thinking about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+). Another element of innovation (sort of) is the S Pen, a specially designed stylus that helps with handling and working with the phone. Because the phone is big, users would have to use their both hands anyways, so the S Pen was created to improve this experience.

The glass back side is not necessarily a fantastic feature for this phone given the fact that it will always be smudgy from fingerprints and other interactions. It is also a matter of concern regarding the phone’s integrity, but as already mentioned, this is not a phone for jeans and other pockets.

The listing price for a device like this is around $600 – $700, but prices vary from store to store. Still, if it were to compare, the Galaxy Note 5 seems more expensive than the iPhone 6S Plus which says a lot.

Display

The Super AMOLED 5.7 inch display supports a QHD (440×2560 pixels) resolution at 518ppi pixel density. By following tradition, the display is protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The screen responds extremely well to both touch and S Pen, offering an interactive and easy to work with device.

This amazing display offers users an amazing experience with crystal-clear details and fantastic images.

Performance

This big phone is powered by 2 processors: one Quad CoreCortex-A53 that runs at 1.5GHz and one Quad Core Cortex A-57 that runs at 2.1GHz. Together, they form an Octa Core power that is backed up by an Exynos 7420 chipset. So yes, the device is powerful and moves fast when running multiple demanding apps simultaneously.

The Mali-T760MP8 GPU is great at supporting high-quality videos and images and fast graphic processing. Also, the 4GB of RAM memory allows the device run smoothly while the 32/64GB of extra space is great for storing files and running complex office apps.

Given the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a phone designed for businessmen, who are always on the run, the device implements fast connection speeds with the dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

Battery Life

The non-removable Li-Po 3000 mAh battery is powerful enough to backup such a big phone for a full day of work. Samsung promotes wireless fast charging that only takes 120 minutes to reach 100%.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 follows the trend and promotes a slimmer design with a bigger screen. The metal and glass combine beautifully into a harmonious device that looks good in every situation. Due to the curved glass edges on the back, the phone is easier to hold in hand.

The case is solid as Samsung used 7000 series aluminum, just like the one used for the iPhone 6S casing. Also, the fact that there’s a special place, in the casing, for the S Pen, makes things extremely compact and comfortable.

Camera & Features

Samsung boast with Note 5’s camera because it is indeed one of the best on the market. With 16MP on the primary camera, details and lights are so nicely immortalized you’ll immediately fall in love. The primary camera (on the back) supports 4k and UHD recording and implements optical image stabilization and an F/1.9 aperture for low light conditions. The secondary camera only has 5MP but it is great for selfies and video calls.

Final thoughts

PROS:
  • Great design with curved edges on the back
  • Amazing camera specifications and features
  • Great display with vivid colors
  • The S Pen is a great idea
  • Great battery life
CONS:
  • It is a big phone that doesn’t fit most of the pockets
  • The glass back is not the best choice

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a gorgeous phone with advanced features and great design. Even though it can be categorized as a big phone, it doesn’t feel so and the introduction of the S Pen helps improve the navigation and device usage.
