Samsung Galaxy S6 Review

“A beautifully designed smartphone with advanced features”

The Samsung S6 is a beautiful phone that promotes a slim shape and smooth lines. Besides the looks, the phone implements a powerful hardware configuration that will impress anyone looking for a high quality device with great features.

The S6 version from the Galaxy series is considered by both consumers and critics, one of the best phones Samsung made in years due to the fact that they finally decided to give up the plastic casing and embed the battery in the casing. They also included their own processor and a cleaner interface, fact that improves the user experience and places this beautiful gadget on top of our preferences.

The price shouldn’t scare you, but it is a bit steep for a regular budget. Thus, the listing price is around $1000, but given the fact that Samsung also launched the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, you can find the Galaxy S6 at half off, for about $500.

Display

The display is a Quad HD Super AMOLED 5.1 inches, with an improved resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a density of 577 pixels per inch. This resolution is among the best ever implemented on a phone, given the fact that even the Note Edge only supports 525ppi. This means that the display will show videos and images with a flawless clarity and saturation.

Sadly, this amazing improvement is very impressive on paper, as in real life, the human eye can’t perceive the fine differences at such fine resolutions. Also, a display with such resolution will definitely ask more from the battery than one with more timid specifications.

The capacitive Touchscreen, that supports 16M colors, is protected against scratches and shocks by the popular Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is a guarantee that the phone will look great for a long period of time.

Performance

Samsung wanted to impress customers on all levels, so they produced their own processor, the Samsung Exynos® 7420 Octa-core that runs on 64-bit technology. With a Mali-T760MP8 GPU and 3GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is pretty fast and has the capacity to run advanced games and high quality videos without freezing.

The internal storage space (the device doesn’t have a slot for a memory card anymore) varies from 32GB (minimum version) to 128GB (maximum capacity). Of course, the price is set accordingly.

Battery life

The battery is Li-Ion, non-removable (for extra thinness), with 2550 mAh power and has the capacity to keep the phone going for up to 17h when in constant use.

Design

As mentioned before, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is a beautiful device that promotes a slimmer design with curved lines and rounded corners. The passage to metal and glass, transformed the usually boring Samsung devices into a beautiful piece of art.

The frame is built out of an aluminum alloy with a matte finish and on the bottom side of the screen we will find the same home button with a metal ring, framed by two capacitive keys. On the right side of the phone, like usual, Samsung placed the nano-SIM slot and the power button. On the bottom side, there are two ports: one for a headset and one for charging while the left side houses two separate volume buttons.

The final conclusion regarding design is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 did implement a major change in the Samsung tradition.

Camera & Features

The device has two cameras: one primary, on the back and one secondary on the front that can be used for video calls and other similar activities. In order to enhance the video and image experience, the phone implements features like geo-tagging, Auto HDR, face detection, touch focus, and panorama.

The primary camera has 16MP and outputs a resolution of 2988 x 5312 pixels. It also includes optical image stabilization for sharp and clear images and videos and is equipped with LED flash and autofocus.

The secondary camera has 5MP and supports 1440p resolution at 30fps.

Final thoughts

PROS:
  • Slim design with metal casing
  • Corning Gorilla Glass for protection
  • Amazing resolution
  • Advanced features
CONS:
  • Price is still a bit steep for a phone is old news by now
  • The improvement in resolution is not noticeable to the human eye

The Galaxy S6 from Samsung is a gorgeous looking phone that implements a series of advanced features to improve both the entertainment and work-related experience. The device marked a major design change for Samsung and comes with one of the best resolutions currently available.
