“Comfortable on the wrist, stylish and affordable”

The Asus ZenWatch 2 may not be the most impressive gadget of its kind out there but it is more impressive than what it was expected considering the first version. The ZenWatch 2 promotes a stylish design that attracts and impresses through simple lines and beautiful colors, reminding us of the much praised Apple Watch. The rather traditional square shape is adapted with rounded corners, fact that makes the watch more elegant and attractive.

Another feature that makes users think of the Apple Watch is the fact that Asus ZenWatch 2 comes in two sizes: one smaller for women and one for men. This and the possibility to choose between straps promote this gadget as being one of the most desirable for the price tag. The Asus ZenWatch is selling for just $149 for the leather strap version fact that makes it one of the most affordable devices that runs Android Wear out there.

The slim design and lateral button makes it look like a veritable watch and offers comfort during wear regardless of the activity. The leather or rubber strap fixes the watch in place so the user can run, workout, climb or simply run their daily office routine without being uncomfortable in any way.

The Asus ZenWatch 2 impresses with a slimmer design (in comparison with the first version), that is completed by a stylish strap (rubber & leather) and a beautiful stainless steel case. To make sure everybody will be able to wear it, Asus created two different sizes thus targeting women and men with small wrists as well.

The steel casing comes with three color options (black, silver and golden) and there are 9 options for the strap promoting different materials and colors. The side button reassures the user that this device was firstly designed as a watch and only afterwards built to be a sophisticated computer.

The AMOLED touch screen supports up to two fingers on the display allowing users to be creative with gestures. The bigger version comes in 1.63 inches and offers a 320 x 320 pixels resolution at 278ppi density while the smaller version has 1.45 inches, packing a 280 x 280 pixels resolution and 273ppi density. The pixel density is actually higher than the ones supported by other brand smartwatches like the Motorola Moto 360 or the LG G Watch R.

The screen is bright and crisp, offering a great representation of colors and sharp images with little to no pixelation.

The heart and soul of this display is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor that runs at 1.2GHz and 512MB of RAM that allow any type of app to run without lag. There is also some extra storage space of 4GB eMMC Flash memory that can be used for the OS and installed apps. You can also store music, pictures and other files to access directly, without using the phone.

The watch also packs a 400 mAh battery that offers about two days of constant use. The charging is done quickly and

The display is covered with 2.5D curved Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 thus shielding the screen from scratches and other unwanted problems like wear and tear markings. The Asus ZenWatch scored a rating of IP67 to water and dust resistance, meaning that users can wear it while in the outdoors or while working out. The rating also suggests that the watch could withstand a quick swim, but we wouldn’t recommend it.

Features & Connectivity

The Asus ZenWatch will be running Android Wear 5.1.1 and it will come with a few pre-installed apps created by Asus. The connectivity is realized via Bluetooth, but the watch also has WiFi capabilities meaning that you won’t really need your phone nearby in order to receive notifications.

As tracking fitness activity is one of the most important features for a smartwatch, the Asus ZenWatch 2 implements a 6-axis gyrometer and accelerometer but it lacks the heart rate monitor. This means that the pedometer will be the only feature available for tracking users’ fitness activity.

Final Thoughts

  • Affordable for most people
  • Beautiful design
  • Stylish lines
  • Android Wear 5.1.1
  • WiFi capabilities
  • Decent battery life
  • No heart rate monitor
  • 6-axis sensor

The Asus ZenWatch is a beautiful and stylish device that offers some of the most important new technologies at an affordable price. The sleek design makes it easy to wear and the gorgeous screen curve completed by the stainless steel casing make it a wonderful gadget to own.
